API & Backend Development

The backend is the part nobody sees and everybody depends on. It stores your data, applies your rules, and lets your apps and your partners' software talk to each other through an API. We design and build backends that stay fast under load, keep data secure, and are documented well enough that another team can pick them up.

APIs other developers can actually use

A good API is consistent, predictable, and documented. We agree how it will work before building it, describe it in OpenAPI/Swagger (a standard format other developers can read), and keep the naming, error messages, and paging the same everywhere. That saves your own developers and any partner connecting to you a lot of guesswork.

REST or GraphQL?

REST is our default. It's simple, widely understood, and easy to speed up by saving copies of common answers. GraphQL lets each app ask for exactly the fields it needs, and it earns its added complexity when many different apps need different slices of the same data. We build either, and we'll recommend based on who will use the API.

Monolith or microservices?

Microservices (a product split into many small, separate services) solve team-size and scaling problems that most products don't have yet. For a new product, we usually start with one well-organized service and draw clear lines inside it, so a piece can be split out when there's a reason. When you already have the scale and the teams, we design and build microservices properly.

Sign-in that holds up

Secure sign-in (using tokens, OAuth2, or single sign-on) and access by role are built in from the start. Sign-in is the worst place to improvise. OWASP, the security community's reference list, ranks broken authentication second in its API Security Top 10 and calls the sign-in mechanism "an easy target for attackers since it's exposed to everyone."

Fast databases, tested under load

Slow products are often slow database lookups. We tune the database design and add indexes (shortcuts that keep searches quick), then test the system under heavy simulated traffic before launch, so you learn how it behaves under pressure from us, not from your users.

Backends run on AWS, GCP, or Azure, with automated releases (CI/CD) in place so your team can publish updates on its own after handoff.

Frequently asked questions

Should we use REST or GraphQL?

REST for most products. GraphQL when many different apps, such as a website, other software, and partners, need flexible access to the same data. We'll recommend after seeing who will use the API.

Can you improve an existing backend?

Yes. Database tuning, sign-in upgrades, documentation, and heavy-traffic testing can all be done on an existing system, without a full rewrite.

Which cloud platforms do you deploy to?

AWS, GCP, or Azure. We can set up new infrastructure or work inside your existing setup, and the cloud accounts stay yours.
